- CP Sama’ila Dikko blames gas cylinder blast
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has called for calm following the explosion that went off in the Sabon Gari area of the State on early Tuesday with many feared dead.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Mallam Mohammad Garba, said the incident occurred at an animal feed store opposite a school along Aba Road in the Sabon Gari community of the State
Mallam Garba further stated that while the damage is yet to be ascertained, an investigation has since commenced in order to determine the cause, impact, and measures to be taken.
He assured that the government would keep the public abreast of any development on the explosion and warned Kano residents to desist from spreading unsubstantiated news and rumours about the unfortunate incident.
Meanwhile, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Sama’ila Dikko, who confirmed the explosion, also said it was not a bomb blast as being speculated by some people.
Reacting to the incident, CP Dikko said; “It wasn’t a bomb blast. It’s a gas cylinder explosion. The seller’s shop is on the ground floor of the building where the school is located.
“So, when the cylinder exploded, it brought down the building and the pupils got injured. There wasn’t a bomb blast.”
