BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has said that kidnappers and bandits are now taking advantage of the crisis between the Tiv and Jukun people to cause mayhem on the people of the State.

Ishaku, who stated this while answering questions from Newsmen on the Tiv/Jukun crisis after casting his vote in the Local Government elections in Takum, the headquarters of his Local Government, however said that the state government and security agents are on top of the situation.

The governor explained that the level of criminality particularly kidnapping and banditry in the state has nothing to do with the Tiv-Jukun crisis but pure act of criminality where kidnappers and bandits steal and kidnap people.

Ishaku further said; “I met the situation on ground and since l assumed office, my focus has been on peace because without peace, there would be no development”. Commenting on the reason for not visiting his home town of Takum for the past one and half years, Ishaku said he was unable to visit home owing to his illness before now.

He said that he is now home owing to the fact that he has recovered and therefore urged the people to stop celebrating when their leaders fall sick.

Ishaku said; “Nobody invites sickness and anybody cannot be sick. Therefore, it is wrong and ungodly for people to celebrate when their leaders are sick”.
