BY SEGUN ADEBAYO, ABUJA – The youth wing of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU), on Thursday condemned the silence of elected representatives over the “growing spade of attacks and killings across villages and communities” that have left hundreds killed and many others injured, including destruction of towns and villages.

According to a press statement signed by the National Youth Leader, Comrade John Isaac, and made available to Forefront, the youth reminded “Southern Kaduna representatives that representation isn’t just about issuing condolence messages and visits to families who lost love ones as a result of their nonchalant attitude towards the safety and well-being of the very people they claim to represent.

“We are, therefore, charging every elected representatives across Southern Kaduna to live up to their responsibilities which entail standing up in defence of the people, promoting the wellbeing of people and protecting the overall interest of the people.”

The youth wing called on elected representatives in the area to unite and “setup a sovereign support fund where every representative contributes on monthly basis for the support of affected families, communities and the internally displaced.

“In view of the above, the Youth Wing shall not hesitate to sensitise its members across all local government area of Southern Kaduna on the need to reject any unproductive and self-centered representatives.

“In the words of Martin Luther King ‘A time will come when we will not remember the words and actions of our enemies, but the silence of our friends and brothers’”
