Former governor of Kano State and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced his resignation of his membership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
This was as he declared that he remained committed to working with political stakeholders towards a better future for Nigeria.
He said; “We shall continue to collaborate and work together towards charting a better and more prosperous future for our dear nation”.
Kwankwaso was the presidential candidate of the NNPP in 2023 general elections and national leader of the Party.
A statement on Sunday, March 29, 2026, Kwankwaso announced he was leaving the NNPP, stating that the decision
took immediate effect.
Kwankwaso explained that the decision to quit the NNPP was not an easy one, thus thanked the party for the opportunity to serve.
The statement said; “I seize (take) this opportunity to express my profound gratitude for the honour and privilege of serving as the Party’s National Leader and its Presidential Candidate in the 2023 General Elections.
“As a committed and bona fide member of the party, this was not an easy decision to make. The current political climate in the country left me with no other choice,” he explained.
Kwankwaso however, said that he would align with another political platform that offers an opportunity to change the nation’s trajectory.
In his words; “However, considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation”.
The former minister of Defence thanked Ajuji Ahmed, national chairman of the NNPP, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and also appreciated members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) and party leaders across all levels, including ward and state structures as well as supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement.
He said; “I extend my deepest appreciation to the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed and the entire National Working Committee for their steadfast support throughout my time.
“I also thank the Board of Trustees, the National Executive Committee, and all levels of leadership across the party — from the ward to the state level, as well as the legacy members of the party and all followers of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their dedication and commitment to our shared mission,” he enthused.
The Kwankwasiyya Movement on Saturday, March 28, 2026, announced that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso would join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday, March 30, 2026.
