The Nigerian military has announced a major success it has recorded in its counterterrorism war with the elimination of top commanders of wanted notorious Bello Turji in a precision airstrikes carried out in Sokoto Sokoto State.
One of the top terrorists’ commanders killed as a result of the airstrike that was carried out by the Air Component of Operation Fagge Yama was known key ally of Bello Turji, identified as Alhaji Shaudo Alku.
The airstrike operation which was targeted a gathering of the terrorists close to Tunfa Primary School in Isa Local Government Area on Saturday, May 17, was executed with military precision.
The military which announced the success story via its official Facebook page on Sunday, specifically said that the airstrike eliminated Alhaji Shaudo Alku, a high-profile terrorist figure reportedly invited from neighbouring Niger Republic for a strategic meeting.
The statement said; “Alku was killed alongside several foot soldiers and yet-to-be-identified terrorist commanders”.
A security analysts describe Alku’s death as a major blow to the terror network operating along Nigeria’s northwest corridor, particularly the syndicate loyal to Turji, who has been linked to a series of deadly attacks, kidnappings, and banditry in the region.
The statement by the military also stated that the strike was part of an intensified effort to degrade terrorist operations and leadership structures under the ongoing counterinsurgency campaign.
The statement further said that further details and possible follow-up operations are expected to be made public as the military continues to monitor and assess the aftermath of the strike.
