The Council Chairman of the Akwanga Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, Emmanuel Leweh, is dead.

Sources close to the family said late Leweh was rushed to the hospital after he slumped on Monday, January 10, 2022, in his office at the Council Secretariat in Akwanga.

The unfortunate incident occurred shortly after he addressed the senior staff of the council with a pledge to work with them for sustainable socio-economic development and growth in the local government.

Leweh, who is barely three months in office, died at a private hospital in Abuja where he was receiving treatment.

Reports said his death was confirmed on Thursday, January 13, 2022, shortly after Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and his Deputy, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, visited him at the private hospital in Abuja where he has been receiving medical treatment.

He was sworn in for a three-year tenure in October 2021 and was yet to constitute his cabinet.

A member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, representing Akwanga south, and younger brother to the late chairman, Samuel Tsebe, confirmed the incident, saying; ”I lost my elder brother (Hon Emmanuel Joseph Leweh, Executive Chairman of Akwanga LGA) to the cold hand of Death this evening after a brief illness.”
