NCPC Boss Extols Media Agenda Setting, Support For Voiceless Majority
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Executive Secretary of Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Reverend Yakubu Pam has extoled the media for its agenda setting role and support for the society’s voiceless majority.
He said members of the Fourth Estate of the realm must always act as the people’s conscience for the overall good society and democratic governance.
Speaking when Executive members of the Middle Belt Journalists Forum (MBJF) visited him in Abuja recently, Rev Pam also said true journalism is one that caters for the interest of the voiceless and the vulnerable.
The NCPC boss, in giving thumbs up to the media whom he described as a “dependable ally in the Nigeria project”, urged practitioners to remain resolute and focused on their reportage.
Specifically, addressing the MBJF, Rev Pam said the Middle Belt has always believed and demonstrated commitment to the unity of Nigeria.
According to him, this has over the years been the patriotic disposition of leaders and the good people that make up the North Central geo-political zone.
He also lauded the exemplary leadership and patriotism of former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) who demonstrated his resolve for one indivisible Nigeria during the Civil war.
However, noting that some ethnic groups within the Middle Belt have continued to remain aloof and never participating in promoting the general welfare of their people and the zone, the Clergyman said; “We should not allow religion or ethnicity to divide us.”
He therefore assured the MBJF leadership that NCPC is ready to partner with the Forum to help them advance their noble goals and objectives.
Earlier in his remarks, MBJF President, Jonathan Ipaa said they were at the Commission to show solidarity and support for the Executive Secretary, the management and staff for their great teamwork in achieving NCPC’s statutory mandate.
He described Rev Pam as a man with an “impeccable track record” in the Lord’s vineyard and a man of peace, adding that given his pedigree, “NCPC is more visible through stakeholders’ engagement and peace building” within the polity.
The MBJF President also coveted the NCPC boss’ prayers and support in attending their planned maiden “Awareness Retreat Conference on the Middle Belt struggle” scheduled for April 2021 in Jos, the Plateau State capital
