Ndume Tackles Senate Over New Office Space
The immediate past Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate and Senator representing Borno South, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has rejected a new office allocated to him by the Senate Services Committee.
Coming on the heels of his recent rejection of the Senate Tourism Committee Chairmanship, Senator Ndume maintained that the office space given him does not reflect his seniority and as one of the most high-ranking position in the Upper Legislative chamber.
A letter addressed to the Chairman of the Senate Services Committee, Senator Sunday Karimi (APC–Kogi West), on Tuesday, and signed by his Chief Confidential Secretary, Yati Shuaibu Gawu, said; “I am directed to inform you that, Distinguished Senator Mohammed All Ndume, has rejected the allocation of office number 3.10 by the Committee.
“This is because offices are traditionally allocated on a seniority basis. Sen Ndume is the most Senior Senator after Sen Ahmad Lawan and will only occupy an office on the fourth floor.”
The outspoken Senator was recently stripped of his position as the Senate’s Majority Whip following a letter by the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s leadership over his comments in a media interview considered detrimental to the Party’s electoral fortune and for criticising President Bola Tinubu-led government.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, had also relived Ndume of his Vice Chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, hence the decision by the Services Committee to allocate new office space to him.
