Former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has declared that there is no basis for comparison between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike when it comes to the leadership of the country.

Tambuwal, who was also former Speaker of the House of Representatives, pointedly said he would support Atiku over Wike if he had to make a choice for the leadership and future of Nigeria.

Tambuwal, who stated these on Friday, September 5, 2025 when he featured on Channels Television programme; ‘Politics Today’, emphasised that his political choices are anchored and guided by principles of leadership and not personal relationships.

The Senator representing Sokoto South district, emphasised the need for the separation of friendship and politics, stressing that his politics has nothing to do about his friendship with people.

In the words of Tambuwal; “And I am saying this with all sense of responsibility, if Atiku Abubakar comes in here and Wike requests my phone, which is personal to me, I will personally give it to Wike as a personal friend.

“But, if it is about the future of Nigeria or when it comes to leadership of this country and leadership of the people, tomorrow, not even today, I would rather support Atiku than Nyesom Wike,” he stressed.

The former Speaker also explained that his political disagreements were never based on personal matters, stressing that he has good relationships with leaders across party lines.

He further said; “It is a collaboration; it is not something difficult. Once it is about being altruistic and nothing personal. You have never seen me going against President Bola Tinubu personally, you have never heard of me going against Nyesom Wike personally and I would not”.

Tambuwal also cited his past differences with former President Goodluck Jonathan as an example, saying; “We disagreed on principle, the way, and the direction things were going. I had no problem personally with President Jonathan, but we disagreed on principle, and I left PDP for APC.”
