BY ABDULWAHEED OLAYINKA ADUBI, KADUNA – The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for The Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), have inducted about 400 new pupil Engineers in Kaduna.
The pupil Engineers are students of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT).
During the induction, the President of NSE, Engr Margaret Aina Oguntala, said the unwavering commitment to excellence of AFIT has set a high standard for engineering education in Nigeria.
Oguntala said; “As an institution, you have fostered an environment where innovation, integrity, and professionalism thrive”.
The NSE President who was represented by the Chairman of the Kaduna Branch, Engr. Arege Samson Bawa said the world is evolving rapidly, adding that engineers must harness the power of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence to drive innovation for sustainable development of the country.
Speaking in turn, the Provost of AFIT, Prof. Auwal Kasim, said that the institution is guided by the code of conduct for both staff and students to achieve.
He said that the Federal Government is kin towards the mandate given by the NUC in revitalizing the engineering profession.
Kasim further said; “AFIT as an institution saddled with the responsibility of nurturing and equipping young admitted Engineers based on the NUC guidelines and follow up this mandate to the graduation of this potential nation builders”.
Also speaking, the president of the Council for The Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Engr. Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, solicited support through continuous participation in various training and capacity development activities of engineering profession in the country.
Zubair, who was represented by a COREN council member, Engr. Abubakar Jumare, said that the Council is partnering with NUC to ensure that a harmonised BMAS/CCMAS is developed to guide unified quality assurance policy of all engineering programmes in compliance with the engineering regulation gazette.
