NYSC Corps Member, Faith Ukpevo Launches Durumi Cemetery Projects

BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – Faith Ukpevo, a committed and dedicated National Youth Service Corps member last week made a significant milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for the perimeters fencing of the Durumi 1, Abuja cemetery fence project.

The Special Guest of Honour at the event, Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande Wisdom, was ably supported by notable traditional rulers, clergies, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, Chairman of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, Mrs Bassey, Civil Society Organisations and the clergy, schools and members of the community.

                         

In his speech shortly before laying the foundation of the Fence Project, the Minister of Youth Development, who was represented by his Special Assistant on Special Duties, Hon Babatunde Prudent, commended the NYSC Corps member, Miss Faith Ukpevo for her initiative and focus, describing it as an impressive move to enhance security and sanity in the area. The minister urged other corps members to take a queue and emulate Faith’s passion and commitment to community development.

Speaking in turn, the State Pastor of Living Faith Church, FCT, Pastor Emmanuel Agi, who was represented by Pastor Sunday Ogbada, encouraged Faith to commit her plans to God while rendering human efforts to achieve them.

Pastor Ogbada while anointing the project for God’s speed and success, pray God to increase and widen the scope and focus of the project.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the NUJ, FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, expressed admiration for Faith’s gigantic project worth N21 million, and particularly commended her commitment to community development.

                           

Ike advised Faith to consider a career in Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and philanthropic work.

Similarly, Mr. Amos Dunia, a former Chairman of the NUJ, FCT Council, described the event as historic, praising Faith’s parents for raising her with compassion for others.

Earlier in her remarks, Faith specially acknowledged the construction giant, ‘Julius Berger’ for their words of encouragement and support for the project, praising their spirit of corporate social responsibility.

The NYSC Corps member, Faith, who turned 25 on May 2, 2025, expressed her gratitude to attendees and appreciated organizations and individuals who had encouraged and supported her vision while calling for more support to complete the project.

Similarly, the proud father of Faith, Mr. Samuel Ukpevo, shared his initial concerns concerning the magnitude of the project, adding however, that he was proud of his daughter’s dedication to giving back to society.

Faith Ukpevo’s initiative aims to restore sanity to the environment, enhance security, honour the departed ones and bring smiles to the faces of residents.

With the groundbreaking ceremony marking the beginning of the project, Faith is optimistic about completing the fence and making a positive impact on the community.

Faith expressed optimism that with the support of well-meaning individuals and organizations, the project will be completed within the shortest possible time, thereby bringing glory to God and to the benefit of the community.
