BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Following the discontentment and backlash that trailed his recent comments on Fulani President, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has apologized to Nigerians who might have felt offended by the remarks.

The Governor was speaking against the backdrop of being quoted by the media as saying he will not support a Fulani man becoming Nigeria’s President at any time.

However, responding to questions from journalists in Bauchi on Wednesday during a consultation meeting of his G-5 Integrity Group with Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir of Bauchi State, Governor Ortom said he was quoted out of context.

Asked to clarify the statement, the Benue Chief Executive said; “I want to say categorically that was not what I meant when I was captured saying that.

“But all the same, I know that it would amount to logical fallacy if people have taken it the way they did.

“But I want to say to those who are so offended by my remarks, I am very sorry, I didn’t mean that”.

Recall that recently while reacting to the killings in his state by unknown gunmen, Samuel Ortom had declared that he will not in any way support the emergence of a Fulani man as President of Nigeria, a remark that has not go down well with many Nigerians.
