PDP: Why Damagum Failed To Provide Needed Leadership – Suswam
Former Governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam, has declared that the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Amb. Umar Damagum, has failed woefully to provided the needed leadership to unify members of the Party at a time when internal cohesion is seriously needed.
He also accused Damagum of betraying an agreement he purportedly had with Mr Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Suswam told journalists during a chat that it is clear that Damagum is only interested in holding onto the office of National Chairman, but not concerned about the interest of the PDP.
In the words of Suswam; “Let us call a spade a spade. The acting National chairman of our Party, Ambassador Damagum has failed us. Damagum has not only mismanaged the party’s internal disputes, but also broken trust by reneging on an agreement with Wike.
Suswam, who is eying the National Chairmanship position specifically criticised what he described as the “lack of transparency” in Damagum’s handling of party affairs, stressing that such actions have further eroded the trust of key stakeholders.
He said; “I would have done far better because I wouldn’t engage in an agreement with the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike and renege on it. I will engage in agreement and genuine consultation with stakeholders”.
Suswam noted that the PDP is presently like a patient in critical condition and in an intensive unit, adding however, that it may survived and become much stronger.
In his words; “The PDP is presently in an intensive care unit, and a lot of people have survived from the ICU. I believe that if the right thing is done which I no doubt, would be done because everybody is concerned, there is still a chance.
“But most people no longer have confidence in the current leadership of the party and there is so much uncertainty about the future of the Party ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Suswam said.
