The Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has said that the insults she endured for not uploading photos of herself and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Paris, France are clear indication of the extent of division in Nigeria’s culture.
She particularly cautioned against reading too much into the statements made by certain Nigerians.
Okonjo-Iweala, who stated this while responding to the barrage of attacks by some Nigerians believed to be mainly supporters of Tinubu, explained that she posts photos in the order that challengers or accompanying personnel submit them.
Some Nigerians had criticised the former Minister of Finance and Coordinator of the Economy for not sharing the pictures of her and President Tinubu on her online but, shared those of herself and other international leaders on her Twitter account.
Some of the critics went a step further by accusing her of discriminating against Tinubu as a result of his origin being the Southwest part of the country.
However, Okonjo-Iweala in a tweet on Saturday afternoon, advised the critics to unwind just as she counselled Nigerians to come together rather than wage war on one another.
In the words of Okonjo-Iweala; “To advance our nation, we must love one another, regardless of our tribe or faith”.
