Rep Lar Commends Legislature Over Nigeria’s Political Stability
BY HENRY EMEKA, ABUJA – A member, representing Langtang North and South federal constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives, Hon Benni Lar, has said the legislature is responsible for the political stability Nigerians enjoy in the country today.
In an interview with select journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Hon Lar pointed out that without the legislative arm of government, the democracy in the country would not have been possible, adding that the legislature has always intervened when the nation is about to go into major crisis.
“Without the legislature, the democratic government in Nigeria would not have been possible. I will give credit to the legislature for the passage of relevant bills, for intervening when the nation is about to go into crisis,” the lawmaker said
She stated that the present synergy between the legislative and executive arms of government is very important, because it has enabled important bills to be passed by members of the national assembly for the interest of Nigerian citizens.
The lawmaker noted that one of the major achievements of the present administration is the signing of Police Reform Bill into law, adding that Nigerians have always advocated for community policing due to the growing insecurity in the country.
She, however, charged state governments not to politicise the community policing, stating that it should strictly be to tackle the issue of safety and security in the communities.
Lar advised Nigerians to have the spirit of nationhood, and to think of what we can do for the country, noting that the major challenge in the country is getting Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of nationhood.
The House of Representatives member, however, noted that Nigeria has done quite well in its 60th anniversary, adding that the country has grown and matured as a nation, while Nigerians have imbibed the right values.
