The Commissioner of Police in-charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ajao Saka Adewale, has given insight into the circumstances that led to the death of Arise News correspondent, Somtochukwu Maduagwu.

CP Adewale said that the late Miss Maduagwu, was popularly known as Sommie, jumped from the 3rd floor of her apartment situated in the high brawl Katampe Hill of Abuja during an armed robbery attack on Monday, September 29, 2025.

This was as report pieced together indicated that vigilantes in the compound told neighbours that after jumping from the top floor of the 3-storey building and landed on the hard concrete floor, Somtochukwu became unconscious and was discovered in a terrible state before she was eventually rushed to the hospital.

CP Adewale told Arise TV on Wednesday, that police officers met Somtochukwu unconscious at the scene and rushed her to the hospital.

In the words of Adewale; “Policemen moved to the scene and found her lying unconscious. She was immediately taken to Maitama General Hospital, where doctors tried to resuscitate her using CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), but sadly, she could not make it”.

The FCT police boss explained that the robbers invaded Unique Apartment, a three-story twin building with 18 flats, located around the Gishiri axis of Katampe, under the Mabushi Divisional Area.

According to him; “Some unknown armed robbers gained access to Unique Apartments, where Sommie lived.

“Two private security guards were on duty. One of them, who had the courage to challenge the robbers, sustained a gunshot injury.

“In the panic that followed, Sommie, who lived on the topmost floor of the building, jumped down from the third storey. The consequences were tragic and very unfortunate,” he said.

Adewale said that an investigation team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation), had been established to track down the attackers and assured that no stone will be left unturned until the perpetrators are brought to justice.

Adewalae further said; “The leads we are getting are already being worked on, and no stone will be left unturned until the perpetrators are brought to justice”.

The FCT police command commiserated with the family of Sommie, the Arise News family, and Nigerians that were deeply touched by the ugly and unfortunate incident.
