Security Agencies Move Against Rising Crimes, Criminality In Bauchi

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Bauchi State Police Command has frowned at the rising cases of kidnapping and related criminal activities in the state.

The State Police Commissioner, Lawan Tanko Jimeta said kidnapping and banditry currently rampant along the State’s border areas, particularly the notorious Falgore forest in Kano state, are adversely the security of lives and property in the North East state.

Jimeta spoke during a Town Hall meeting on security issues held at the Multi purpose Indoor Sports Hall, Bauchi on Monday.

He however said the Police Command has briefed the State Government on the development, adding that the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has already given the marching orders to clear the kidnappers and other bandits from the State.

According to him; “On behalf of the Inspector-General of Police IGP Abubakar Adamu Mohammed and the entire Bauchi state Police Command, we humbly submit and our commitment to this noble program aimed at engaging our youths across all stratum of the society. Indeed the youths being the most vibrant segment of the society , are vital in driving the wheel of development in any society”.

“Here in the state, the Command has been in close contact and partnership with various youth and women organizations. Recently the command met with some of them to discuss on ways to tackle the increase in the incidence of Rape, Armed robbery and other violent crimes.

“It is my privilege to sincerely and publicly acknowledge the enormous assistance being giving to the Police command and the entire security architecture in the state by Senator Bala Mohammed.

“Sir on behalf of the state security chiefs, I say thank you. And on their behalf promise to re-double our efforts to bring safety and security to the entire state, In-Shaa-Allah”.

In his intervention. the State Director, Department of State Security (DSS), Umar Abdullahi Yeldu expressed concerns over the increase crime rate in the state,, particularly kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry, rape and other crimes which must be checked immediately.

The DSS Director also expressed the Department’s commitment to collaborate with sister security agencies to effectively combat criminals and stamp them out of the state.

Yeldu therefore appealed to all citizens of the state to as a matter of necessity, come out with useful information about criminal activities around them because according to him “without useful information, it will be difficult to fight crime and criminality.”

At the Town Hall, other security agencies, the Army and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) reassured government of their readiness to collaborate on the fight against crime and criminality in the state so that people can live in relative peace.
