Sultan Berates el-Rufai Over Comments On Kaduna Senators
- Warns politicians against hate speeches
BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has described as worrisome and disturbing the attitude of Governor Nasir el-Rufai towards political opponents ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Similarly, the Sultan said as the country prepares for next year’s polls, all politicians in Kaduna must refrain from propagating hate speeches and displaying combative arrogance in the overall interest of the people and the state.
Speaking at the Annual Pre- Ramadan lectures organised by the Jama’atul Nasirul Islam (JNI) in Kaduna, the Sultan lamented that the governor’s aggressive attitude towards his perceived opponents is becoming bothersome and unexpected of a political father-figure of the State.
He said there is an urgent need for Kaduna politicians to shun hate speeches and close ranks given the State’s prime position in the scheme of things and survival of the northern region.
The spiritual leader also called for restraint on the use of social media among the people as politicians would do everything to promote religious, tribal, ethnic sentiments aimed at causing discord and promoting hatred in the polity.
Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar’s counsel is against the backdrop of the March 29, 2018 comments by Governor el-Rufai, who rained curses and called the three Senators representing Kaduna State ‘bastard’ with no origins, for failing to support his administration’s $350 million dollars World Bank loan request at the National Assembly.
In his remarks, Secretary-General of JNI, Khalid Abubakar, urged Muslim faithful to stay within the confines of the Prophet Mohammed, SAW’s teachings during the Ramadan.
He also advised that anyone conducting tafsir (preaching sessions) in the Mosques and other religious grounds should abide by the guidelines as put together by JNI.
Accordingly, the JNI Scribe said all preachers must also be vigilant about the movement of Shiites to Abuja and its environs, saying that the members no longer use their black attire but disguise into the community.
“The rise in bomb blasts in recent time is a wake-up call to the Ummah and the need for adequate vigilance cannot be overemphasized”, Abubakar said
He maintained that it has become imperative for all tafsir centres to be well-equipped with security gadgets and personnel to effectively control the movement and activities of people during the daily preaching sessions.
