We’ll Restructure The Police To Meet Modern Security Challenges – IGP Adamu
BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – Newly confirmed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu on Thursday pledged to restructure and restrategise the Nigerian Police Force to meet modern security challenges in the country.
IGP Adamu made the pledge following his confirmation as substantive Inspector General of Police by the Police Council chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the presidential villa, Abuja.
He said that having looked at the current strategy of the Force vis-a-viz the personnel, there is the urgent need to reorganize the way the system is structured with a view to identify the right personnel and move them to the right places for better job performance and efficiency.
Adamu said that the Force as presently positioned need to critically re-strategize with a view to face criminals and criminality squarely.
According to him; “It requires re-strategizing for us to be able to dig deep into what is happening in the North-west so as to deal with the situation squarely. I think the security agencies within the country are capable of dealing with the situation.”
IGP Adamu also said that he briefed the Police Council on the security situation in the country adding that the efforts the police high command is putting in place to address the security challenges will certainly yield results. In his words; “After the presentation, I was confirmed as the IGP. What it means for us that we have been given a though task to make sure that we provide security within the country and make the country crime free.
“This means that we have re-double our efforts. Whatever strategy we have put in place, we have to look at it, and re-strategize day in, day out to make sure that the insecurity in the country goes down to the barest minimum.”
The IGP said that policing is a tough job, adding however that the police under him supervision will redouble its efforts to make the country crime free and reduce insecurity to the barest minimum.
It is expected that the Council of State will rectify the confirmation of the appointment of the IGP at its next meeting.
