BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, GOMBE – Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, says despite Nigeria’s huge security challenges, the courage and sacrifice of serving and non-serving armed forces members in defending the territorial integrity of the country deserve lots of commendation.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya stated this shortly after leading dignitaries in the wreath-laying ceremony marking the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day held at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe on Friday to honour Nigeria’s fallen heroes.
He told journalists that the ceremony offers an opportunity to reflect on the immense contributions made by members of the Nigerian Armed Forces in and out of service who laid their lives for the country to survive as an indivisible unit.
The governor promised that his administration is willing to always assist security agencies in maintaining law and order in the State, just as he urged all citizens to continue showing solidarity and support to the living and fallen heroes as well as their families to boost their morale.
Among dignitaries who joined Governor Inuwa to lay wreaths at the symbiotic tomb of the Unknown Soldier, were the State Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau; Gombe State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo; and the State Acting Chief Judge, Justice Muazu Pindiga.
Others included State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Maikudi Shehu; Commander of the 301 Artillery Regiment, Major J. David; Emir of Gombe, and State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion.
In related development, Governor Inuwa on Thursday, January 14, launched the 2020/2021 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Fund with a donation of five million Naira (N5m) on behalf of his government and a personal donation of One million Naira (N1m) to support families of the ex-servicemen.
Also, special prayers were offered by both Christian and Muslim military clerics for the repose of the souls of all fallen heroes, the peace of Gombe state and the nation in general.
