After about 19 days away from the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to the country from his France and London ‘short working visits’.

The President arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International airport, Abuja at about 9:55 pm on Monday, April 21 and was received by top government officials.

Those on hand to receive him include the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu.

In a statement issued earlier, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga had said President Tinubu would arrive Nigeria on Monday.

According to Onanuga; “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will return home today.”

Onanuga had while announcing the trip on April 2, 2025 said President Tinubu departed for Paris, France, on “a short working visit.”

He further said the President while away would appraise his administration’s midterm performance and assess key milestones.

Onanuga also stated thus; “He will also use the retreat to review the progress of ongoing reforms and engage in strategic planning ahead of his administration’s second anniversary.

“This period of reflection will inform plans to deepen ongoing reforms and accelerate national development priorities in the coming year.”

Additionally, the Presidential Spokesperson had explained that while away, President Tinubu would remain fully engaged with his team and continue to oversee governance activities, promising that he “will return to Nigeria in about a fortnight.”

But following criticism from opposition figures when the President clocked two weeks outside the country amid prevailing insecurity, the Presidency on April 17 explained that the President remained fully engaged in Nigeria’s governance though far away in Europe.

According to Onanuga, “His absence remains temporary and in line with the communicated timeframe of approximately two weeks.

“His return to Abuja and the resumption of duties at Aso Villa will follow the conclusion of the Easter holiday.”

This as the Presidency also appreciated the concerns of Nigerians, adding that “the President’s commitment to his duties remains unwavering, and his administration continues to function effectively under his leadership.” – With Daily Trust reports
