Clergy Canvases Religious Harmony, Peace For Development
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – A Clergyman and Convener of Peace Ambassador Summit 2020, Rev Father Henry L. Dabang says Nigerians must embrace religious tolerance and peace as panacea for national cohesion and development.
He said harmonious co-existence among adherents of the two major religions in the country, particularly their youths populace, is required to promote nation building at all levels of governance.
Speaking to Journalists during a one day summit organized for Christian and Moslem youths drawn from selected Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Bauchi and Gombe states, Rev Father Dabang said only in an environment of peace can Nigeria witness thriving socio-economic growth and development.
The Clergyman stated that at this time of a global pandemic, peace and peaceful co-existence are required to tackle the health challenge headlong, adding that without peace no meaningful development can be achieved.
He said the programme would expose participants to various aspects of peace building and harmonious living because there is no way adherents of both faith will not intermingle with each other.
Rev Father Dabang also said the summit, a collaborative effort involving Misereor and Justice Development and Social Cohesion Initiative, aimed at bridging the gaps and addressing misunderstanding between the two religious groups.
He said the organization would not relent in partnering with others to pursue objectives that promotes understanding among both adherents of both religions and avoid unnecessary tension building.
The Clergy expressed optimism that participants in the programme would be well equipped to return home and set up their own cluster groups for the promotion of peace and peaceful living among the people.
The program, held at Fatima Social Centre, Bauchi, drew resource personnel from uniformed agencies in the state who delivered papers on peace and harmonious coexistence among the citizens.
