Covid 19: Gombe Discharges 18 More Patients
…As Task Force receives additional donation from Chinese firm
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, ABUJA – The Gombe State Taskforce on COVID-19 has said that aside from the 72 patients earlier discharged, it has given a clean bill of health to 18 additional patients who tested negative, thereby bringing the total number of discharged cases to 90.
Chairman of the State Taskforce on COVID-19, Professor Idris Mohammed, who announced this while briefing the media on the state’s status on the pandemic as at Friday, May 15, 2020, said that the State has a total suspected cases of 1,236 out of which 124 were found to be positive and receiving treatment at various designated health facilities in the state.
Prof Mohammed also said that out of the 31 results of tests returned from Abuja on May 15, 2020, five are positive while one of the five positive cases died before the results were received, bringing the recorded deaths to two.
He added that as a result, there is no single covid-19 patient at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe isolation centre.
Speaking on the re-opening of religious worship centres in the state, Prof Mohammed said that the Taskforce had been to some Juma’at mosques in the state and was impressed with the level of the adherents’ compliance with preventive measures such as physical/social distancing and other protocols.
Meanwhile, the State Rapid Response Taskforce on COVID-19 has received a donation of operational items from a Chinese construction firm – SK and ECC.
Items donated to the state Taskforce include 7000 face masks, personal protective equipment ( PPEs) that included 850 pieces of hand gloves, 150 protective wears and 150 protective glasses as well as 10 pieces of thermometer.
Displaying the donated items before the media, Chairman of the Taskforce, Prof Mohammed applauded the donor for supporting the state in the fight against the pandemic and pledged judicious use of the materials as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the Governor.
