BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed 604 new cases of COVID-19 in the country on a day the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 announced plans to deploy more technology in its service delivery for improved safety measures.
This is as the PTF also sent best wishes for speedy recovery to one of its team member and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, over his positive test for coronavirus
Confirming latest figures on its official Twitter handle late Thursday night, the NCDC said that with the freshly reported infection numbers, the nationwide tally has now jumped to 38,948 cases.
According to the reports; “On the 23rd of July 2020, 604 new confirmed cases and 20 deaths were recorded in Nigeria
“Till date, 38,948 cases have been confirmed, 16,061 cases have been discharged and 833 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”
Of the 604 new cases reported from 21 states of the Federation, Lagos jealousy kept its epicentre status with 203 cases in the last 24 hours,, followed by Oyo – (87), FCT – (79), Edo – (41), Osun – (35), Ogun – (24), Rivers – (22), Kaduna – (22), Akwa Ibom – (20), and Plateau – (18).
Other states on the daily infection’s chart include: Delta – (9), Ebonyi – (9), Imo – (8), Enugu – (5), Kano – (5), Cross River – (5), Katsina – (4), Nasarawa – (3), Borno – (2), Ekiti – (2) and Bauchi – (1)
Meanwhile, the PTF, in its get well message to the Foreign Affairs Minister, said; “Our prayers and best wishes are with the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs as it is with all Nigerians that have contracted the virus and the entire humanity bearing the burden of the pandemic.”
“We wish them all speedy recovery” from the virus infection”, the Task Force Chairman, Boss Mustapha said on behalf of the members.
