COVID-19: Nasarawa Imposes Total Lockdown on Nasarawa LGA

…Says use of face masks compulsory

BY AHMED TUKUR,  LAFIA – Following the death of a lawmaker, late Hon Suleiman Adamu, the Nasarawa State Government has imposed a total lockdown on Nasarawa Local Government Area, the hometown of late legislator, who died last week Thursday as a result of COVID-19.
The toatal lockdown was announced by the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Comrade Dogo Shammah during a media briefing at Government House, Lafia, the State capital.
Shammah also announced that the State government has adopted the policy of compulsory use of face mask in public place with effect from Wednesday, May 5, 2020.

The State Government also said that it has identified 74 people that came in contact with the late lawmaker, Hon, Suleiman Adamu, who died from complication from COVID-19.
The State Commissioner of Health, Mr Ahmed Baba Yaya, explained that total lockdown in Nasarawa is to enable medical personnel to conclude contact tracing of all those linked to the late lawmaker from the area.
However, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana Esq, has announced the lifting of the lockdown in Karu Local Government Area that shares border with the Federal Capital Territory.
Kana emphasized that the decision was taken because the essence of the lockdown has been attained, adding however, that a curfew has been imposed on Karu Local Government Area from 8pm to 6am.
The Attorney General however said that all other restrictions, including the ban on all social and religious gatherings remain in place until further notice.
