For allegedly disappearing with 30 bags of grains meant for members of his constituency as palliatives, the Niger State Government has declared a Councillor in Katcha Local government area of the State wanted
Secretary to the Niger State Government and Chairman, State Task Force on COVID-19, Alhaji Ibrahim Matane, who confirmed the ugly development in Minna, said the fleeing Councillor (names withheld) was part of a committee established to distribute the grains meant for his community .
Alhaji Matane described the incident as a “disgraceful and fraudulent” act that will not go unpunished, assuring that the matter will not be swept under the carpet by the State government.
The SSG said the missing package was part of 10 bags each of rice, maize and millet allocated to the 274 wards across 25 Local Government areas by the State government.
Explaining the situation further, Matane said; “a Committees was set up in each of the 274 wards in the State, which comprises Councillor, Party Chairman, Ward Head, and a religious leader to monitor the distribution of the grains of which the Councillor in question is part of.”
According to him, due to the disgraceful act, the State government has ordered Security agencies to get the fleeing Councillor arrested for proper investigation and appropriate punishment.
He however said the Councillor’s ignoble action notwithstanding, the State Government is still embarking on the second phase of its palliative packages that will include grains and other materials distribution to the needy and vulnerable people across the State. – With agency report
