COVID-19 Update: NCDC Reports 1,565 Fresh Cases, Tally Now 95,934
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 1,565 fresh cases of COVID-19, with the country’s tally now rising to 95,934 as at Thursday, January 7, 2021.
The disease outfit also said on its official Twitter handle that six deaths were recorded on the day thereby taking the total fatalities to 1330 deaths in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) since the pandemic broke out late February 2020 in Nigeria.
According to NCDC’s website data; “On the 7th of January 2021, 1565 new confirmed cases and six (6) deaths were recorded in Nigeria.”
It further stated that till date, 95,934 cases have been confirmed nationwide; while 77,982 cases have been treated and discharged; with 1,330 deaths recorded in 36 states and the nation’s Capital Abuja.
The breakdown of the 1,565 new cases are reported from 25 states of the federation showed Lagos with (807), FCT – (236), Kaduna – (79), Oyo – (57), Plateau – (47), Rivers –
(37), Katsina – (35), Edo – (30), Sokoto – (30, Delta – (26) and Kebbi (23)
Others listed are: Ondo – (20), Enugu – (18), Abia – (17), Ogun – (17), Benue – (16), Bayelsa – (15), Bauchi – (14), Niger – (13), Kano – (10), Borno – (6), Imo – (5), Ekiti – (4), Osun – (2) and Jigawa – (1)
The Centre also reported on its platform that “Our discharges today include 314 community recoveries in Lagos State, 158 in Kaduna State and 84 in Plateau State managed in line with guidelines.”
It further acknowledged that the increase in transmission and test positivity rate of #COVID19 in Nigeria remains a course for concern
“Majority of our cases are aged 21-50, this poses a risk to the elderly and vulnerable populations. Stricter adherence to safety measures by the public is critical”, the NCDC tweeted @ElsieIlori
