BY VICTIR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday confirmed 416 new cases with 12 deaths as the total number of cases jumped to 10578 across the country.

Though no new state reported a case in the last 24 hours, the NCDC’s figure represents the second-highest daily numbers since Saturday, May 30, 2020, when Nigeria reported 553 confirmed cases on the deadly virus.

The NCDC said on its ofgicial website that; “Till date, 10578 cases have been confirmed, 3122 cases have been discharged and 299 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”

Of the 416 new cases reported from 20 states; the breakdown indicates thus: “Lagos (192), Edo (41), Rivers (33), Kaduna (30), Kwara (23), Nasarawa (18), Borno (17), FCT (14), Oyo (10), Katsina (7), Abia (5), Delta (5), Adamawa (4), Kano (4), Imo (3), Ondo (3), Benue(2), Bauchi(2), Ogun (2), Niger (1)”.

This is as the Federal Government approved “restrictive opening” of worship centres with a caveat that relevant containment protocols against the COVID-19 must be respected in line with the agreement reached between the Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on Covid-19 and the 36 state goverments.

Dropping the hints on Monday during its daily media briefing, the PTF also announced the second phase of its ongoing eased lockdown that is expected to be in place for another four weeks.

Though the initial six-week of the current eased lockdown effectively ended by midnight of Monday, June 1, 2020, the PTF on COVID-19 admitted that the pandemic still remains very potent as Nigeria struggles to reach the peak of infection.

Consequently, the new lockdown phase further strengthens the existing  ban on interstate movements and travels; as well as gatherings with more than 20 people among other precautionary measures.

Some of the information captured l on the NCDC’s official handle are presented below;
