COVID-19 Update: Nigeria’s Tally Hits 3526, NCDC Reports 381 New Cases
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – Nigeria’s rising numbers of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases got a spike on Thursday night with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reporting an all time high figure of 381 new cases in one day.
The development brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 3526 even as NCDC reported four (4) deaths with no new state recording any case in the last 24 hours.
Announcing these figures on Thursday via its verified Twitter handle, the Centre explained that .
the 381 new cases remains the highest ever recorded in 24 hours since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in the country early March 2020.
In its ongoing efforts at tackling the COVID-19 spread nationwide, the NCDC has so far ran tests on a total of 22,492 samples with 601 cases treated and discharged from various isolation centres and accredited health facilities.
For now, current fatality figure in the country showed 107 deaths recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) while Cross River and Kogi remain only states without confirmed cases of the deadly virus.
A breakdown of the latest figures released on May 7, 2020, indicate that of the 381 new confirmed cases reported from 18 states, the virus epicentre, Lagos had 183 cases; Kano – 55; and Jigawa – 44.
Others on the list are: Zamfara – 19; Borno – 9; Bauchi – 19; Katsina – 11; Kwara – Eight (8); Kaduna – Seven (7); Gombe – Six (6); Ogun – Five (5); Sokoto – Four (4); Oyo and Rivers – Three (3) cases each; Niger – Two (2) while Akwa Ibom, Enugu and Plateau recorded a case (1) each.
