FG Extends COVID-19 Lockdown Again
Buhari approves another 4 weeks
BY VICTOR OSOWOCHI, ABUJA – For the third consecutive time, the Federal Government has extended its nationwide lockdown as Nigeria strengthens efforts at tackling the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
This latest move in the second phase of an eased lockdown will last for another four weeks in the fight to curb the virus spread nationwide.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha announced the decision at their briefing in Abuja on Thursday.
He said that President Muhammadu Buhari approved the extension in line with current and emerging scenarios in the fight against the deadly disease.
At present, Nigeria ranks among the worst hit countries by the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa, so far reporting over 45,000 confirmed cases and 930 deaths since the pandemic broke out.
Nigeria’s numbers are the third-highest on the continent, with only South Africa and Egypt recording higher figures currently.
