Gunmen Invade Tsangaya School, Abduct 15 Students In Sokoto
BY OUR CORRESPONDENT – On the heels of two separate banditry attacks in Kaduna State, gunmen early on Saturday morning abducted about 15 students from Tsangava School at Gidan Bakuso in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to reports on the incident, the gunmen stormed the School premises unannounced and took the students away in the early hours of Saturday morning, March 9, 2024.
Confirming the unfortunate incident, Proprietor of the School, Liman Abubakar, informed journalists that so far, 15 students were missing as at the last roll call, noting that the School authorities were taking stock of the situation to know if there were other victims in the kidnappers’ custody.
He said the gunmen suspected to be bandits, stormed the area at about 1 am, shot one person and abducted a woman in the process, adding; “As they were leaving the town, they sighted our students rushing into their rooms and they kidnapped many of them.”
Abubakar, who expressed shocked at the attack, further said; “We have so far counted 15 students who are missing and we are still searching for more”.
He lamented that the incident was not the first time the village was attacked by bandits and pleaded with the government and security agencies to come to their aid to forestall such further invasion of the town by criminal elements.
Also commenting on the incident, a member, representing Gada-East Constituency at the state House of Assembly, Kabiru Dauda, said distress calls came from the village around 2 am notifying him that it was under attack by bandits.
Further offering information on the action taken, the lawmaker said; “I quickly reached out to the local government authorities and security agencies and I am sure they are doing something about it.”
Reports said that bandits attacked and killed three persons at Turba village in Isa Local Government Area of the state, including the village head.
A member representing Isa Constituency, Habibu Modachi, while confirming the incident, said they are suspecting that it could be a reprisal attack following the raid carried out on bandits’ hideouts two days ago by security operatives
Meanwhile, when contacted on the incident, Sokoto State Police Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, said he was not aware of the development.
However, he promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer of the local government areas and get official briefing on the incident before reaching out to journalists.
Some residents of the local government have expressed concerns that this latest attack is coming at a time the state recently held the passing out of its Community Guards Corps, an initiative of the Sokoto government meant to tackle banditry across the State.
