Kaduna Will Establish Peace Commission – el-Rufai

BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – Following the incessant crises that have affected most parts of the State in recent years, the Kaduna State government on Tuesday announced that it was working towards establishing a Peace Commission to ensure effective conflicts management in the state.

Governor Nasir el-Rufai, who announced this on Tuesday while speaking at a three-day workshop on Conflict Prevention and Peace building in Kaduna, said that already, the State House of Assembly has endorsed the proposed Commission which would be responsible for coordinating stakeholders in peace making, towards ensuring lasting peace in Kaduna state.

El-Rufai, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Samuel Aruwan, said the Commission would also support security agents, ensure prompt conflicts resolution and dialogue statewide.

He said in addition to this effort, the government has so far provided one hundred vehicles, motorcycles and the Bullet proof jackets to security agents working in the state.

Aruwan therefore called on the civil society organizations to assist government in its effort at protecting lives and property of citizens of the state.

In a remark, a human rights activist, Mrs. Hannatu Ibrahim, enjoined civil society organisations to redouble their efforts at ensuring unity, understanding and tolerance among Nigerians.

The three-day workshop is being attended by civil society organisations from the Northern states.
