Nasarawa@24: Create Agency To Tackle Poverty – Lawyer Urges Gov Sule

FROM AHMED TUKUR LAFIA – A Nasarawa State based legal practitioner, Barrister Abdullahi Ubandoma has challenged Governor Abdullahi Sule to re-strategize on policies towards poverty alleviation and wealth creation in the State.

Speaking on the occasion of Nasarawa@24 in Lafia, Barrister Ubandoma said the rising level of poverty and sufferings across the country indeed calls for serious concern.

He urged the Governor to create an agency for poverty alleviation saddled with working on reducing the burden of youth empowerment on the State government.

The lawyer also pleaded with the Governor to empower commissioners and allow them award contracts for specific amount of money to allow State indigenes benefit and reduce bureaucracy.

Ubandoma, who praised the state governor for completing ongoing projects and bringing investors to the state, equally advised government appointees to take a cue from the governor by following his footsteps.

In his remarks earlier, Governor Sule promised to industrialize the state by pursuing investor friendly policies and putting on ground the enabling environment to assist investors coming to the state.

Speaking at a seminar on the relationship between different arms of government at Government House, Lafia, Governor Sule said that his aadministration will work with all arms of government to bring development to the state.

Governor Sule pointed out that his administration will do all it takes to strengthen the three arms of government in the state to achieve sustainable economic development.

He however urged leaders at all levels to promote accountability, transparency and prudence in the management of resources as their watchwords for the common good of all.

Speaking on the theme: “Examining the Role of the Arms of Government on the Security and Economy of Nasarawa State”, Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment and Economic Planning, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, lamented that one out of every six persons in Nasarawa State currently lives below the poverty line.
