- Brisk business for food vendors
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has denied the Nigeria Police Force’s involvement in Tuesday’s invasion of the National Assembly (NASS) by security operatives.
He expressed surprise at the early morning barricade of the NASS complex, assuring that the Force was already working on issuing an official statement on the incident.
Exonerating the police of any complicity in the crisis, IGP Idris told State House correspondents after meeting with Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that; “Obviously, like I said, I have not got a detailed brief on that. So, when I get the brief, in fact we are going to issue a (press) release.”
In attendance at the closed door meeting with Acting President Osinbajo were the IGP, sacked DSS Director General and Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari
Meanwhile, it was brisk business day for many food vendors as they took advantage of the National Assembly entrance blockage by security operatives to sell their wares.
Staff of the Assembly, journalists and some early callers, barred from entering the NASS complex, relied on the vendors for food while the wait at the entrance lasted.
New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NASS entrance was littered with water and soft drinks’ bottles, groundnut peels, and used food packs among other items.
One of the vendors, Mrs Hauwa Ismaila, who noted that the development at the assembly entrance was unusual, expressed happiness that her day was made because of the obvious gains in the day’s business.
“Today is better than other days. My food is almost finished”, she said
