Senator Sani Calls For Cancellation Of Kaduna Central Senatorial Election
BY AMOS TAUNA, KADUNA – The Senator representing Kaduna Central in the National Assembly, Comrade Shehu Sani has called for the cancellation of last Saturday National Assembly election in his senatorial zone.
Senator Sani, who contested for the senatorial seat on the platform of People’s Redemption Party (PRP), said the poll in his senatorial district was marred with irregularities and therefore vowed to take legal action if the issues raised are not addressed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Sani told journalists in Kaduna on Monday that the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections were seriously rigged in Kaduna.\
According to him; “The election was full of irregularities. There were intimidation, vote buying, failure of Card Readers and all sorts of undemocratic practices that were exhibited.
“Most of those who conducted the election were not the ones trained by INEC. Worst still, security agents did nothing to apprehend those found to have violated the rules of the game.
“There were cases of lost of ballot papers and other election materials. There was collaboration between INEC and the ruling party to deny Nigerians a free, fair, credible and peaceful election.
“Where there is no free and fair election, it affects a peaceful atmosphere and by implication negate the aspirations and yearnings of the electorate. As a democrat, l cannot congratulate by opponent in an exercise that was not free and fair.
“There were no serious scrutiny of PVCs to ascertain the genuine owners and again, more votes were recorded than those who cast their votes in some polling units.
“If all the issues raised which l have written to INEC calling for the cancellation of the election are not addressed, l will definitely take legal action.”
Similarly, the PRP Kaduna North House of Representatives candidate, Kassim Balarebe Musa told newsman that the election was characterized by over voting, vote buying, intimidation and other irregularities became the order of the day and therefore threatened to take legal action if the election is not cancelled.
