SERVICOM Tackles Service Failure in Public Sector – National Coordinator
BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – Newly appointed National Coordinator, National Office for Service Compact with all Nigerians (SERVICOM), Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli has assured that the Agency will address the challenges of service failure in the public sector in order to facilitate effective and efficient citizen-focused service delivery in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of Government.
The SERVICOM Chief Executive gave this assurance at her maiden meeting with the Management, where she sought their cooperation towards achieving the Agency’s vision of being the foremost Change Agent for Service Excellence.
Mrs. Akajemeli, who was in acting capacity for two years before her confirmation last week, is the third National Coordinator/Chief Executive Officer of SERVICOM Office since its establishment in year 2004.
A statement by the Public Awareness manager, Patience Musa said that Mrs. Akajemeli’s four year tenure appointment came barely three weeks after the SERVICOM Office, under the auspices of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, hosted the 1st National Dialogue on Strategies for Improving Service Delivery in Government Parastatals, Agencies and Commissions with the theme, “Efficient and Effective Service Delivery: Imperatives for Enhancing the Change Agenda”.
A communique, which emanated from the well-attended two-day National Dialogue, recommended among others: a re-affirmation of Service Compact by the Federal Government, so as to convey the political will and commitment of Government to the Service Delivery Initiative.
Mrs. Akajemeli’s appointment is described by stakeholders as a strong indication of the political will and commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration towards the service Delivery Initiative whose objective is to address the challenges of service failure in the public sector and to facilitate effective and efficient citizen focused service delivery in Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government.
Akajemeli joined the services of the Federal Government in 1989 as a Personnel Officer II with the National Directorate of Employment and rose to the position of an Assistant Chief Personnel Officer before joining the SERVICOM Office in 2004 as one of its pioneer staff.
In the SERVICOM Office, she has held key positions of Team leader, Head of Operations and Chief SERVICOM Officer before she began acting as National Coordinator SERVICOM in 2015.
The SERVICOM National Coordinator and CEO, 51, holds a Master’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Abuja and is an alumnus of Federal Government Girls College Abuloma, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. She is an indigene of Imo State and married to Sir Okwudili Akajemeli from Anambra State and blessed with four children and grandchildren.
