The US-Nigeria Law Group Petition To Trump On Reversal Of Visa Ban On Nigeria Requires 100,000 Signatures

BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – The US Nigeria Law Group has written to the President Trump administration announced over what it described as “an unprecedented and unjustified” visa ban on Nigeria.

The Group noted that the visa ban on Nigeria being the U.S. top African trade partner for years, would not serve the U.S. interests and therefore said that the policy is grossly unfair and should be revoked.

In a statement, the Coordinator of the Group, Mr. Emmanuel Ogebe Esq, noted that Nigeria has been for many years, a leading non-middle eastern oil supplier to the USA, stressing that US oil purchases from Nigeria did not end up funding anti-American terrorism.
Ogebe, who is based in Washington DC, further said that Nigeria’s 11,000 International students pay half a billion dollars into the US helping subsidizes college education just as he noted that Nigerian troops died on behalf of USA in Liberia
He further said; “Nigerian immigrants have never been part of terrorism. US businesses like Delta will be affected.”
The Nigerian born lawyer said that Nigerian immigrants are the most educated adding that Nigerian immigrants are top caregivers in health care, stressing that these encourages illegal migration.

Ogebe’s letter to President Trump on the need for  a reversal of the Visa ban on Nigeria is however requiring 100,000 signatures in two weeks before the ban comes into effect on February 21.

This was contained in an acknowledgment and guidance was received from the White House which states as follows;

  1. I had previously used this White House platform to petition for the designation of Boko Haram as a Foreign Terrorist Organization several years ago.

Unfortunately at the time, we did not garner the required 100,000 signatures although even a former US ambassador to Nigeria was one of our signatories in favor of the FTO designation.

This time around, we hope that there is enough interest and adequate numbers of people willing to vote on the right side of history.

I call on the Attorney General of Nigeria and the Foreign Affairs minister who also just arrived Washington for the US Nigeria Binational Commission meetings to establish a joint working group to address the visa ban and USA’s concerns.
