PEPT Fixes Hearing Of Atiku’s Motion On Live Broadcast For May 18, 2023

The Presidential Election Petition Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday, fixed May 18, 2023 for hearing of a motion on notice seeking live telecast of the proceedings of the Court.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar filed the motion.

At Thursday’s proceedings, Counsel to Atiku, Chief Chris Uche SAN, told the tribunal that the motion filed since May 7 has been served on all the respondents, adding however, that none of the respondents that include the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and its presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu have not responded to the motion.

Responding, Tinubu through his legal counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, promised to file his response.

Similarly, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud SAN, who stood for INEC and Charles Edosomwen SAN, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), all said they would file their response.

Following the agreement of the Counsels, Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani fixed Thursday May 18 for hearing of the motion.

In another development, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal has scheduled the pre-hearing session in the petition of Atiku Abubakar against the election of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for May 18, 2023.

Atiku’s petition like that of Peter Obi and the Labour Party, was adjourned at the instance of Counsels in the matter to enable them put their house in order on various issues relating to the petition.

The lead Counsel to Atiku, Chief Chris Uche SAN, told the Court that all the lawyers jointly agreed to next week Thursday to allow their teams sort out documents to be tendered during hearing of the petition.

Following no objection from Olanipekun SAN, who stood for Tinubu, Charles Edosomwen SAN, representing the APC and Abubakar Mahmoud for INEC, Justice Tsammani adjourned the matter to May 18, 2023.
