Coronavirus: Oyo Celebrates As Gov Makinde Recovers, Tests Negative
- Resumes duty Monday, April 6
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – Expectedly, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital came alive on Sunday night as news filtered in that Governor Seyi Makinde has now tested negative to the coronavirus.
The subdued celebrations, mostly within government circles due to the current lockdown, followed the Governor’s breaking news announcement on his official twitter handle that for the second time, his result has returned negative for the deadly virus.
According to the governor, the second negative test result, brought on Sunday evening, has now given him a clean bill of health to resume duty on Monday, April 6, 2020 as substantive Head of the COVID-19 Task Force team in the state.
Governor Makinde expressed appreciation to all those who supported him with prayers during the intervening period as he tweeted; “I am deeply moved by your prayers and support throughout this period. I am so thankful.
“This evening, I received my second negative test result for COVID-19. I especially thank Prof Temitope Alonge, who acted in my stead as Head of the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force.
“I am also grateful to all members of the Task Force for their cooperation during this time. I will be resuming my responsibility as Head of the Task Force from tomorrow,” he further said in the tweet.
In the heat of criticisms that trailed his hosting of the South West unity rally of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan, the test ran on Governor Makinde by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed him as a positive case for the COVID-19 pandemic on March 30, 2020.
