Igbo Community Seeks Unity, Elects New Exco In Calabar
BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – The Igbo Community in Calabar, the Cross River capital, has elected a new Executive Committee to pilot its affairs for the next four years.
Emerging from the peaceful and hitch-free election is a 14-member Executives with Barrister Kingsley Kalu as the President General.
Also in the team are Dr Okene Odinka who is the Secretary General and Mr Joeseph Uduma as the Public Relations Officer (PRO).
In his post election speech, the new President, Barrister Kalu, a native of Abia State and Calabar-based legal practitioner, thanked his kinsmen for finding the new officers worthy of the honour and pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them.
He lauded the members for creating time from their busy schedule as private entrepreneurs to participate in the elections, assuring that such huge sacrifices on their part would not be taken for granted.
The new President however urged all members to continue demonstrating high level of respect to the traditional values of their host community while also ensuring they engage in legitimate ventures to avoid unnecessary and avoidable confrontations with security agencies.
In his remarks, a representative of the Cross River State Security Adviser to the Governor, Mr Otu Peron, who witnessed proceedings acknowledged the Igbos’ contributions to the economic development of the state.
He assured the group that the State government would not relent in providing an enabling environment necessary to promote high level of private sector-driven economic activities across the state.
