BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has re-elected the Editor-in-Chief of Vanguard newspaper, Charles Eze Anaba, to pilot its affairs for the next two years as National President.
The development took place on Friday at the Guild’s 2025 Biennial National Convention, currently ongoing at the International Conference Centre in Enugu State.
Feelers indicated as the incumbent, Anaba was returned unopposed, with insiders attributing the development to his widely acknowledged record of robust engagement with members and administrative excellence.
Also receiving a favourable nod at the convention was the Managing Director of The Sun newspaper, Onuoha Ukoh, who emerged the new General Secretary with 218 votes.
However, Ukoh recorded a landslide victory over his closest rivals in the race, Wole Sogunle and Qasim Akinreti, as both came distant second and third with 45 and 30 votes respectively.
Other officers elected are: Deputy President, Sabastine Abu who polled 175 votes to defeat Mohammed Sanusi Jubrin; while Kabir Alabi, Sheddy Ozoene and Hamza Idris, emerged unopposed as Vice-President West, East and North respectively.
The post of Treasurer went to Iyobosa Uwugiaren; Gabriel Fulajimi Akinadewo emerged the Assistant Secretary, while Charles Kanu is the Publicity Secretary.
Meanwhile, those elected into the Standing Committee from various zones are: Rose Moses, Juliet Bumah, Ikpong Essien-Udom, Umoru Ibrahim, Paulyn Ugbodaga, Chinedu Max Egere, Ejiro Umukoro, and Olabisi Deji-Folutile.
Graced by several notable media veterans and public figures, the Convention attracted over 400 editors from across the nation.
The dignitaries in attendance included founder of Channels Television, Dr. John Momoh; former Ogun State Governor, Chief Segun Osoba; ex-NDDC Chairman, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu; and Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari.
