- Insist move long overdue, slam Gov Yahaya’s brashness
BY WILLIAM ATTAH, GOMBE – The decision of an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Dr Jamilu Isyaku Gwamna, to quit the ruling party in Gombe State has continued to elicit applause and excitement from his supporters.
Considered as one of APC’s backbone and power brokers in the North East State, many of Jamilu’s supporters claimed the move was long overdue given the pressure mounted on him to dump the party over alleged injustice and unfair treatment by the Gombe APC’s hierarchy in the state.

Insiders hinted that Jamilu’s exit was bound to happen with the growing concerns and fears that no one can have justice within the APC’s fold against the backdrop of accusations that Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya has pocketed all the executive members and Party’s structures in the entire State.
Consequently, Jamilu, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s governorship aspirant, who dumped the opposition PDP with thousands of his supporters prior to the 2019 general elections, said his sojourn in the APC has finally come to an end.
In making good his decision on Tuesday, 1st February 2022, Jamilu tendered his resignation as an APC member in Gombe State through the APC Ward chairman of Jekadafari ward.
A copy of the resignation letter cited by Forefront had Gwamna explaining that the decision came after wide consultations with family members, political associates, and supporters.
Though the politician refused to document reasons for exiting the APC, some of his ardent supporters and close confidants alleged that the State APC leadership has continued to demonstrate open bias for incumbent Governor of the state Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya against some prominent party stalwarts in the State.
Also, Jamilu was silent on his next political direction, but speculations are rife that returning to the PDP is a visible option on the table for consideration ahead of the 2023 polls.
But one of his close supporters, Isa Kaltungo, said recent events within the ruling party smacks of high-handedness being orchestrated from the State Government House with most stakeholders and party executives already cowed to flagrantly abuse processes towards an easy second term endorsement for the governor.
He said the obvious truth remains that in the present circumstance, there can be no fairness and a level playing field for all gubernatorial aspirants in the forthcoming primary elections in the party.
