Again, President Buhari Violates Electoral Act, Displays Ballot In Public
In Katsina State, reports emerged that in violation of the Electoral Act, President Muhammadu Buhari openly displayed the ballot paper after casting his vote at the polling unit close to his Daura country home.
Many political commentators said that action by the President contravenes the 2022 Electoral Act amendment Bill which he signed into Law in February last year. President Buhari was also accused of displaying the same electoral Act violation in 2019 when he was seeking his second term in office.
According to Section 129 (1); “Exhibiting Party or election-related symbols within the vicinity of a polling unit or collation Centre on the day of election is an electoral offense that attracts a fine of N100,000 or imprisonment for 6 months.”
The President, whose tenure will elapse on May 29, 2023, cast his vote in the company of his wife, Aisha Buhari, and several aides. And for the first time since 2003, he was exercising his franchise as a voter and not a presidential candidate of any political party.
