Eid-el-Kabir: Nigerians Can Only Achieve Greatness Together – Dogara
…As Senator Mark appeals for peace, justice to reign
BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has said that Nigeria can only fulfill its great potentials as a nation if the citizens continue to foster unity, peace, security and stability as well as show greater respect and love for one another.
This is just as he admonished Muslim faithful to use the occasion of the celebration of the Eid- El Kabir festival to promote unity, tolerance, peaceful coexistence and the spirit of sacrifice.
In a statement to mark this year’s Eid el-Kabir celebration, issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Turaki Hassan, the Speaker also said the present moment calls for sober reflections thus enjoined Nigerians, particularly Muslims to use the period to uphold the spiritual benefit of the celebration by extending a hand of friendship and solidarity across all divides.
He also urged Muslims to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and obedience to the higher authority as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim and upheld by Prophet Muhammed.
While wishing the Muslim Ummah a blessed and peaceful Eid el-Kabir celebration, Dogara reiterated his call for sustained prayers for the leadership of the country at all levels.
In his words: “This is an opportunity for us to reflect and pray for our nation; pray for our dear President for God’s guidance and good health and pray for all those in leadership positions so that God in his infinite mercy will continue to guide them as they steer the affairs of the country “.
Similarly, former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has again canvassed for justice, righteousness and peaceful coexistence between and among Nigerians.
Mark in a goodwill message to Nigerians on the celebration of this year’s Sallah, said only a harmonious and peaceful coexistence could guarantee meaningful development.
Apparently concerned about recent out burst from different regions agitating for self-independence within the existing geopolitical entity, Mark cautioned against any action or utterances capable of threatening the indivisibility of Nigeria.
He said Nigeria as a nation has over the years weathered the storm of socio-economic and political challenges, pointing out that it will be unnecessary and ridiculous to ignite another storm.
Mark, however, admitted that the current political and constitutional arrangement may not be perfect but “with collective will and understanding of all stakeholders, we can gradually address the perceived imbalances without spilling the beans”
He, therefore, tasked authorities at all levels to begin forthwith a peace building mechanism between and among various groups so that the present misconceptions in some quarters would not snow ball into a bigger crises.
Dogara reminded aggrieved persons that there are existing legitimate channels including the judiciary and the National Assembly where groups or individuals could leverage on to seek redress of perceived wrong doings instead of resort to self-help.
