APC Guber Primary: Fayemi Set To Emerge In Ekiti
Reports from Ekiti have shown that Minister of Solid Minerals and former governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, is set to emerge as the candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the forthcoming governorship poll.
At the time of filing this report, Fayemi was ahead with over 500 votes, while his closest rival for the ticket, Segun Oni, who is another former governor of the state, had less than 250.
The primary was rescheduled for Saturday after last weekend’s primary that ended in fiasco, with several of the candidates alleging that the APC top echelon was behind Fayemi’s candidature.
Forces opposed to Fayemi are alleging that monetary inducement and undue influence from the top stratum of the party was working for the emergence of the Minister as the governorship candidate for the party.
Reacting to insinuations on forces behind him, the former governor had debunked the allegations as baseless and fabricated, saying the delegates would decide his fate.
One of the aspirants, Babafemi Ojudu, who is the Political Advicer to President Muhammadu Buhari, had accused the NWC Chairman of bias, adding, “From what has happened since May 5 to date, it goes without saying that this is an unfair contest where the National Working Committee Chairman has clearly demonstrated that he does not care what happens to our dear party now and in the nearest future’
“We saw a Chairman who has conspired with one of the aspirants in the race to unleash mayhem on others, wreck havoc and violence on ordinary citizens and exposed the state to great embarrassment on national television.
“We saw an aspirant so unpopular to the extent that delegates called him unprintable names at the voting arena now being imposed on our people, not minding if this means we lose this state forever.”
