BY EDMOND ODOK, ABUJA – The Kaduna chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration of insensitivity and lack of capacity to protect innocent Nigerians.
According to the body, the failure to secure lives and property across the country clearly presents a serious minus for the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the Federal and state levels
Chapter Secretary of CAN, Rev (Dr) Sunday Ibrahim said at a media briefing in Kaduna on Wednesday that it is regrettable the Federal Government seems incompetent to decisively tackle the troubling herdsmen killings and other security issues threatening the country’s corporate existence.
He condemned the so-called clashes between herdsmen and farmers nationwide, noting that the federal and state governments’ handling of the situation leaves much to be desired, particularly in the face of avoidable bloodletting across the country.
Ibrahim said CAN is opposed to the establishment of cattle colonies across the federation as a panacea for the crisis, noting that the move means creating settlements for foreigners to continue waging war against innocent Nigerian citizens.
The CAN Scribe, who insisted that government has failed to deliver good governance to the people, especially in Kaduna state, said; “The Federal Government has consistently told us that these Fulani herdsmen attackers are foreigners. They said the attackers are members of the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWA), who are on a jihad mission. If that is true, it then means that the government of Nigeria has failed us. But we are saying that enough of this bloodshed in our land.”
Speaking further, he said it is important for the electorate to think ahead and work towards voting credible persons during the 2019 elections, stressing that the 2019 polls should be based on individual performances rather than the so-called party affiliations or bandwagon effect.
“Nigerians must be prepared to vote credible people and not people that will continue to tell us lies when they get there. Voting pattern this time around should be based on individual performances and not on party platform. Again, politicians must learn from the 2015 experience. Whoever wins should be allowed to lead and whoever loses must accept defeat in good faith.
“Today we have a lot of hunger in the land, Nigerians are suffering and our leaders seem to be comfortable with what is happening. What we need in 2019 is a complete shift from what we are having now and the only way to do it is for Nigerians to obtain the Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and use it appropriately when the time comes”, Rev Ibrahim said
